Wild camping site in the bush off Portland Roads Road en route to Iron Range and Lockhart River

One of the simple pleasures of bicycle travelling in Australia is availing ourselves of the plethora of wild camping opportunities. About an hour before sunset we just locate a spot in the bush, about 20 to 50 metres off the track, pitch the tent, cook dinner on the Trangia, maybe check out the stars for a while if the mozzies aren't particularly voracious, spotlight for crocs if there is a watersource nearby, hop into bed usually before 8pm, sleep deeply for 8 hours thanks to the relaxing fatigue that all-day cycling promotes, then wake up and pack up the next morning before the birds and sun have arisen, and cycle off with the first rays of light.
